The much-anticipated construction of a state-of-the-art truck traffic management park, dedicated to facilitating the smooth flow of truck transportation towards the Ports of Maputo and Matola on the bustling N4 highway, has officially commenced today.
The project marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance logistics operations within the region and aims to alleviate the persistent challenges of traffic congestion in the N4 corridor.
The initial phase of the project, currently underway, involves extensive site clearing and meticulous terra planning to ensure a level and well-prepared foundation for the upcoming construction activities. Once completed, the park will be equipped with comprehensive fencing and vital infrastructure services, including water and electricity provisions, catering to the diverse needs of the trucks passing through.
With a budget of approximately US$3 million allocated to its development, this visionary undertaking is a key component of the comprehensive initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Maputo.

Launched in April 2023, the initiative is expected to foster greater sustainability and spur overall development along the vital Maputo Corridor, a critical artery for regional trade and economic growth.
Anticipated to be completed within an estimated timeframe of 90 days, the truck traffic management park will be capable of accommodating up to 250 trucks simultaneously, providing a much-needed static capacity to handle the ever-increasing traffic volumes.
By effectively managing the influx of trucks, the park is poised to unlock significant efficiencies in the logistics chain, ensuring a seamless flow of goods and materials while reducing congestion along the N4 highway.
One of the primary benefits of this dedicated truck park is its ability to optimize the allocation of time slots at the bustling Maputo Port. By streamlining the entry and exit of trucks from the port facilities, the park will play a pivotal role in reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall turnaround time for cargo handling operations. In turn, it will create a positive cascading effect on the efficiency and productivity of the entire logistics ecosystem, enabling a continuous cycle of cargo movement within the corridor without causing disruptive bottlenecks.
In addition, the truck traffic management park will alleviate the burden on the nearby Pessene weighing station. By redirecting trucks to the designated park instead of them queuing along the highway, road safety will be significantly enhanced, reducing the risk of accidents and promoting a safer transportation environment for all road users. This strategic move will alleviate congestion on the surrounding roads, contributing to a more seamless and fluid traffic flow.
