The President of the Republic Filipe Jacinto Nysui, inaugurated last week, a water supply system in the administrative post of Cumbana, Inhambane Province, funded by the Government of the United Kingdom through PRONASAR.
The water system inaugurated starts by supplying about 11,000 (Eleven Thousand) people through 10 public standpipes and household facilities and has the capacity to benefit up to 17,000 (Seventeen Thousand) people in Cumbana and neighboring communities.

On the occasion of the Inauguration of the Cumbana Water Supply System, the President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, highlighted that the expansion of access to water in Inhambane will also reach the communities of Guvuro, Vila Franca do Save, Massinga, Funhalouro, Panda, Zavala, Mabote and Morrumbene.
The UK is supporting PRONASAR which is the Government of Mozambique’s strategy for water supply and sanitation in rural areas at a national level. The support includes financial aid for the construction of 500 boreholes and 148 water systems, for sanitation and hygiene, and also a package for the capacity building of technicians from government institutions to improve the response to the demand for water and sanitation services.
The representative of the British High Commission, Dominic Ashton, highlighted the involvement of this country in the expansion of water supply in Mozambique:
“Since 2015, the UK has funded the construction of some 148 water systems in Mozambique, including this system in Cumbane. In Inhambane Province we have supported a total of 11 systems, including 4 desalination units to address the impact of climate change in drought prone areas.”

The investment of the UK Government for the Cumbana Water Supply System is about £1.3 Million Pounds, equivalent to about 104 million meticais. The total national investment is about forty-three million pounds (£43m), which is expected to benefit more than 1.8m people with access to clean water and about 3.3 million with access to improved sanitation and hygiene.
