The Mozambican Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Carlos Zacarias, said last week, that everything is being done to accelerate the pace of electrification in the country, with a view to achieving universal access to electricity by 2030.
“In the field of energy, we are faced with the challenge of increasing the pace of connections of new domestic consumers, so that we guarantee universal reach,” said Zacarias, during the opening of the 8th Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, which kicked off in the city of Lichinga, Niassa province.

According to the minister, the electrification of all administrative posts, which is scheduled for completion in 2024, represents a test of the capacity to mobilise resources, as well as the implementation of electricity generation projects.
Carlos Zacarias said that the country has the challenge of ensuring the completion of structuring projects, especially those of energy generation and transport, which will boost social development.
According to data from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), 81 administrative posts remain to be electrified out of the 130 that did not have electricity from the public grid by 2019.
