Angola said it will present the report on compliance with the recommendations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) September 18 and 19 in New York.

The document which has already been prepared will be presented at a High Level Political Forum on sustainable development, the National Director for Planning Álvaro Pedro David said on Thursday.

Álvaro David, who was speaking at the traditional “briefing”, sponsored by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, said that the Forum will take place under the theme “Accelerating the Recovery from the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”.

The forum also foresees the presentation of voluntary national revisions by approximately 39 countries.

The summit will also feature debates from SDG defenders, an independent group of scientists, international financial institutions, representatives from private sector and civil society.

At the event, the Ministry of Economy and Planning will represent the country, a forum that also awaits the adoption of a final political declaration, concise and aimed at accelerating international action around the SDGs.

According to him, the intention is to improve people’s lives and revive the feeling of hope, optimism and enthusiasm, in accordance with the Sustainable Objectives of the 2030 Agenda.

“A more realistic picture emerges of what has been achieved, where we are lagging behind and what needs to be done to restore credibility, within the framework of the promises of sustainable transformation,” he said.

Data from 2022 shows that around 60 percent of the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have already been achieved by the country.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by the 193 Member States of the United Nations, by Resolution of the General Assembly, on September 25, 2015, representing the global and national commitment to the full implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
