Australian mining company MRG Metals announced last week that it has obtained an exploration licence for heavy mineral sands in Mozambique.
This licence will target the extension of the Koko Massava deposit [around 40 kilometres from the proposed port of Chongoene] and the mining operation of the Chinese company DingSheng, in the Chibuto district of Gaza province.

According to information provided by the Mining Technology portal, for the first quarter of 2024, MRG plans to carry out an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) to then begin onshore exploration, and also intends to get involved with the local government and community.
“MRG is very pleased with the granting of the exploration licence. We will be able to start a new campaign in this project area, which is directly north of our Koko Massava deposit,” said MRG’s chairman, Andrew Van Der Zwan.
