Ethiopian Airlines CEO praised the carrier’s historic month of expansion after Africa’s largest flight network operator added four new services and increased frequencies on six routes in June.

The airline has also bagged 6 prestigious awards in the same period.

“June 2024 has been a historic month for Ethiopian Airlines, underscored by numerous significant achievements,” Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said on Friday.

On the global front, Ethiopian has expanded its network with new routes, including Freetown in Sierra Leone, and Maun in Botswana from Africa. Poland’s capital and largest city Warsaw has also joined its global network as its 24th destination in Europe, effective July 1st.

Domestically, the airline has introduced flights to Axum and Nekemte while enhancing flight frequencies on existing routes.

Ethiopian has also increased frequencies on several existing international routes. Starting on May 31, 2024, passengers on the route to/from Ouagadougou are now enjoying daily flights.

Conakry also saw an increase to daily flights effective June 1, 2024. New morning departures from Addis Ababa to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar in Tanzania commenced on June 16, 2024, along with additional midday departures to Kigali.

Ethiopian is expected to continue enhancing its flight frequencies this month with evening operations to Douala followed by Lubumbashi in DR Congo.

“These milestones reflect our extensive experience and our ability to execute strategic initiatives swiftly and effectively,” Group CEO said.

The airline and the services it provides also got international recognition on two occasions over the past month.

Ethiopian was named Best Airline in Africa for the seventh consecutive year at the 2024 SKYTRAX World Airlines Awards. It also scooped the Best Entertainment in Africa and Best Wi-Fi in Africa titles at the APEX Passenger Choice Awards 2024.

The CEO said: “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our valued passengers for their unwavering loyalty and trust, as well as to our dedicated employees whose hard work and commitment have made these successes possible.”

“We remain steadfast in our dedication to achieving even greater heights in the future,” he concluded.
