Mining Indaba, Africa’s leading mining investment event, has partnered with the Association of Women in Mining in Africa (AWIMA) to advance the role of women in the mining sector.
This collaboration is seen as a crucial step toward fostering gender equality in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. The partnership aims to empower women by promoting their involvement in decision-making processes and leadership roles in mining projects, while also creating a more sustainable and inclusive future for the sector. The 2025 Mining Indaba theme, “Future-proofing African Mining, Today!” reflects this focus on inclusivity and sustainability.
One of the core objectives of the collaboration between Mining Indaba and AWIMA is to provide a platform for women in mining to share their expertise, drive innovation, and lead change. The partnership will focus on addressing key issues that women face in the African mining industry, advocating for a supportive and inclusive environment. Through programs aimed at building leadership skills and empowering young women entering the industry, the partnership seeks to foster a community of female leaders in the sector.

The inaugural Women in Mining Summit, a flagship event under AWIMA, will take place in Namibia in October 2024, with the support of Mining Indaba. The summit will provide a platform for women professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders to network, share experiences, and develop leadership skills.
