The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has announced the launch of a new trade mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after the success of last year’s mission, which resulted in the realisation of US$6 million from agreements, out of a total secured value of US$13.80 million.
The upcoming trade mission, to be held in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga Province from October 16 to 18, will see participation from a delegation of 40 Zambian companies. This initiative aims to further promote Zambia’s non-traditional exports (NTEs) and expand market access within the Congolese market.
Kwali Mfuni, ZDA’s head of communications and public relations, highlighted the agency’s strategic objectives in increasing bilateral trade. The mission will include an opening session attended by representatives from the Congolese government and key industry players, followed by exhibitions and business-to-business matchmaking meetings with potential Congolese buyers. This format ensures that participating Zambian companies have the opportunity to establish valuable commercial connections.

The ZDA is optimistic that this trade mission will build on the achievements of the previous year and enhance Zambia’s presence in the DRC market, further bolstering economic ties between the two countries. The agency remains committed to helping Zambian businesses secure greater opportunities for growth and profitability through international trade expansion.
Zambia ranks as one of Africa’s significant exporters, primarily due to its vast natural resources, especially in copper mining. Zambia is the second-largest copper producer in Africa, after the Democratic Republic of Congo, and ranks among the top 10 copper producers globally.
This mission is expected to contribute significantly to Zambia’s economic diversification goals by promoting NTEs, while also fostering a stronger partnership between Zambia and the DRC.
