Angola Cables, a global connectivity leader, is advancing Africa’s digital transformation by expanding its services to Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Sudhir Juggernath, CEO of TelCables Southern and East Africa—a subsidiary of Angola Cables—unveiled the expansion strategy during the Africa Tech Festival 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa.
The initiative aims to enhance Internet access in underserved regions, aligning with the continent’s rapid digital economy growth.
Juggernath emphasised the critical need for dependable digital infrastructure in Africa, where limited Internet access and affordability remain significant challenges. Instead of acquisitions, Angola Cables will establish partnerships with local carriers and stakeholders to provide high-quality Internet services. “We want to empower these markets with our connectivity solutions and global network,” Juggernath said, highlighting the transformative potential of connecting untapped regions.

Regulatory hurdles and insufficient digital infrastructure were key topics during the interview. Juggernath stressed the importance of simplifying fibre deployment processes to accelerate connectivity efforts. “Regulators need to streamline the process. Fibre is now a necessity for economic growth. It’s about making it easier to lay fibre and set up WiFi terminals or towers,” he remarked, adding that regulatory cooperation is essential to closing Africa’s digital gap.
Despite challenges, Juggernath expressed optimism, citing growing industry pressure on regulators to remove barriers. With Angola Cables’ innovative approach and collaborative efforts, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in creating a cohesive and inclusive digital economy across Africa. By addressing regulatory and infrastructure issues, the expansion into Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe represents a significant step toward achieving Africa’s digital potential.
