MINTEX 2024 brings together a wide array of international and domestic companies, investors, financial institutions, scholars, and diplomats for a four-day showcase. This platform highlights Ethiopia’s potential as a hub for mineral investments and provides domestic companies with the opportunity to promote their products to international markets.
Panel discussions and experience-sharing sessions are scheduled alongside the expo to explore the sector’s investment opportunities. These sessions aim to create dialogue on leveraging Ethiopia’s untapped mineral resources to attract investment and drive development.
Ethiopia’s mining sector is experiencing significant growth, highlighted by the recent inauguration of the Segele gold mine in the Gambella region. This project, developed by Akobo Minerals in collaboration with the Ethiopian government, was officially opened on 20 November 2024, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed attending the ceremony. The Segele mine is expected to enhance Ethiopia’s gold production and contribute substantially to the national economy.

In addition to gold, Ethiopia is focusing on diversifying its mineral exports by adding value to its resources. The government has prioritised the development of value-added minerals to maximise foreign exchange earnings. Efforts are underway to process minerals domestically, thereby increasing export revenues and fostering economic growth.
These initiatives reflect Ethiopia’s commitment to transforming its mining sector into a key driver of economic development.
