The United Kingdom has pledged over $4 billion to support Angola’s development, focusing on strategic sectors like agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, and human resource training.

This announcement was made by the British Ambassador to Angola, Bharat Joshi, following discussions with Benguela Province Governor Manuel Nunes Júnior.

Key Highlights:

1.UK Financial Support: The investment, facilitated through the UK Export Finance Agency, reflects the UK’s strong commitment to Angola’s economic diversification.

2.Sectoral Focus: Priority areas include fruit production in agriculture, tourism development, and infrastructure enhancement.

3.Benguela Investment: Out of the $4 billion, $1 billion will be allocated to projects in Benguela Province, emphasizing agriculture and tourism development.

4.Trade Growth: UK-Angola trade has grown to over $11 billion annually, with British investments, including notable projects like the Cabinda International Airport.

5.Lobito Corridor Potential: While appreciating the Lobito Corridor’s significance, the UK is eager to explore further investment opportunities in Benguela Province beyond the rail corridor.

Anglo-Angolan Relations:

•Strategic Economic Partnership: With strong British involvement in oil and gas, notably through British Petroleum (BP), which has invested over $30 billion in Angola to date, the UK remains a key player in the energy sector.

•Diplomatic Ties: Established in 1975, the relationship between the two nations has expanded to include collaboration in mining, energy, health, and financial services.

Future Outlook:

The British government’s investments are expected to:

•Enhance Angola’s economic diversification efforts.

•Drive sustainable growth in agriculture and tourism.

•Strengthen infrastructure and human resource development, positioning Angola as an attractive investment destination.

This investment reinforces the UK’s role as a major partner in Angola’s development, paving the way for continued economic collaboration and mutual benefits.
