Qatar Airways has announced a major expansion of its global flight network, adding additional frequencies to key destinations worldwide. This move aims to enhance connectivity, offer more flexibility for passengers, and strengthen the airline’s presence in strategic markets.

Among the highlights of the expansion is the increase in flights to Durban (via Maputo), which will now operate seven times per week, up from five. Similarly, the airline has bolstered its services in East Africa, with Dar Es Salaam-Kilimanjaro increasing from three to seven weekly flights, and Entebbe rising from seven to 11 flights per week.

Expanded Global Connectivity

The expanded flight schedule will provide seamless connections and increased travel options to major international destinations, including:

• Amsterdam – Increased from seven to 11 weekly flights

• Damascus – Increased from three to 14 weekly flights

• Dar Es Salaam-Kilimanjaro – Increased from three to seven weekly flights

• Entebbe – Increased from seven to 11 weekly flights

• Larnaca – Increased from seven to 10 weekly flights

• London Heathrow – Increased from 49 to 56 weekly flights

• Madrid – Increased from 14 to 17 weekly flights (jointly operated with Iberia, bringing total flights to 24 per week)

Qatar Airways Celebrates 20 Years of Service in South Africa

In addition to its global expansion, Qatar Airways recently celebrated a significant milestone – 20 years of service to South Africa. The airline recorded its busiest festive season ever in the country, transporting 84,000 passengers to and from Africa between 22 December 2024 and 6 January 2025, nearly doubling pre-pandemic figures from 2019-2020.

Qatar Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, highlighted the airline’s strong commitment to South Africa:

“For two decades, we have built a strong and lasting relationship with South Africa, including being a reliable partner during the pandemic. We remain dedicated to contributing to the country’s economic future and growth through our partnership with Airlink.”

Strengthening Qatar Airways’ Global Reach

The increased flight frequencies underscore Qatar Airways’ commitment to enhancing global travel, supporting tourism and business connectivity, and reinforcing its role as a leading international carrier.

With new and expanded routes, passengers can expect more seamless travel experiences, improved transit times, and greater accessibility across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
