Angola has taken a bold step towards integrating innovation with heritage preservation.
The Angolan Sovereign Fund (FSDEA) has joined forces with Spain’s technology institute CTIC to digitise and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, beginning with a pilot initiative in the historic coastal town of N’Zeto.
This groundbreaking collaboration aims not only to preserve Angola’s cultural identity but also to foster sustainable development and community empowerment through digital innovation.
The project in N’Zeto will use advanced digital tools to document historical sites, oral traditions, and local knowledge—transforming them into accessible, interactive formats for educational, tourism, and research purposes. CTIC brings to the table its expertise in emerging technologies such as 3D scanning, virtual reality, and AI-driven cultural mapping, which are set to reshape how Angola’s heritage is presented and preserved.

By digitising its heritage assets, Angola is opening new doors for cultural tourism, encouraging international collaboration, and inspiring a new generation to value and protect their historical legacy. The project is also aligned with broader national and regional development goals, promoting socioeconomic inclusion while reinforcing Angola’s soft power globally.
According to FSDEA, this pilot will serve as a blueprint for future digital heritage projects across the country, ultimately positioning Angola as a regional leader in tech-enabled cultural preservation.
As Africa continues to assert its cultural narratives in the digital age, Angola’s partnership with CTIC underscores a growing movement: using innovation not just for economic growth, but to honour and sustain the soul of the nation.
