Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has concluded a high-level visit to Mozambique, reaffirming the Fund’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the country.
The visit featured constructive dialogue with President Daniel Chapo and senior government officials, focusing on macroeconomic stability, policy reform, and technical assistance.
During the visit, Bo Li praised Mozambique’s continued efforts to pursue fiscal and structural reforms in the face of global and domestic challenges. He emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum in areas such as public financial management, debt sustainability, and inclusive growth, which are central to the IMF-supported programme currently in place.
“Our discussions reflected a strong shared commitment to advancing Mozambique’s economic development,” Bo Li stated. “The IMF stands ready to continue providing policy advice, capacity development, and financial support to help Mozambique build a more resilient and inclusive economy.”

Talks also explored ways to bolster Mozambique’s institutional frameworks and enhance transparency, particularly in resource governance. The IMF has been supporting Mozambique through a three-year Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement, approved in 2022, which aims to strengthen public finances and unlock long-term growth.
President Chapo welcomed the IMF’s engagement and reiterated his administration’s determination to implement reforms that promote job creation, investment, and improved public services, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and education.
Mozambique’s economy is gradually recovering from recent shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and geopolitical headwinds. The government has also intensified efforts to attract investment in the country’s growing natural gas and agriculture sectors.
