South African regional airline Airlink has finalised a lease agreement with U.S.-based aircraft lessor Azorra to acquire 10 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with the first delivery expected later this year.
The deal marks a significant step in Airlink’s fleet modernisation strategy and positions the airline to meet growing demand across Southern Africa.
The Embraer E195-E2, known for its fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and low noise footprint, is ideally suited to Airlink’s short- and medium-haul routes. With seating for up to 146 passengers, the aircraft will allow Airlink to increase capacity while optimising operating costs and environmental performance.

Airlink currently operates a fleet of 68 aircraft, primarily made up of Embraer regional jets, making the E195-E2 a natural extension of its existing operations. The airline has grown into one of Southern Africa’s most important carriers, serving over 45 destinations in 14 countries, including major hubs such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Windhoek, and Maputo.
“This investment in next-generation aircraft reflects our confidence in the region’s recovery and long-term growth potential,” said an Airlink spokesperson. “The E195-E2 will enhance our ability to offer more comfortable, sustainable, and efficient service to our customers.”
Azorra, a fast-growing lessor with a focus on regional and crossover aircraft, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. The deal represents a deepening relationship between the two companies and aligns with Azorra’s commitment to supporting dynamic airlines in emerging markets.
As passenger demand continues to rebound post-pandemic, Airlink’s fleet expansion will strengthen its position in the competitive African aviation market, while also supporting greater connectivity across the continent.
