Rwanda has received the Best Tourism Infrastructure Award at the 2025 Africa Tourism Awards held at the Hilton Canary Wharf in London, marking yet another milestone in the country’s emergence as one of Africa’s premier tourism destinations.

The accolade recognises Rwanda’s sustained investment in world-class hotels, modern conference facilities, and well-managed accommodation infrastructure. Over the past decade, the country has transformed its tourism landscape through a combination of policy consistency, strategic public-private partnerships, and a focus on sustainability.

A New Benchmark for Tourism Excellence

From the capital Kigali’s modern skyline to the luxury lodges bordering Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s tourism offering reflects careful planning and environmental stewardship. The development of the Kigali Convention Centre, the Bugesera International Airport project, and a network of eco-friendly resorts have strengthened the country’s position as both a leisure and business tourism hub.

According to the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), tourism remains the country’s leading source of foreign exchange, contributing more than 10% to GDP and employing thousands of Rwandans. Rwanda’s model — blending conservation with community benefit — has become a reference point for sustainable tourism across the continent.

Recognition with Broader Meaning

The Africa Tourism Awards’ recognition underscores how infrastructure quality has become central to Africa’s competitiveness in global tourism. Rwanda’s focus on high-value, low-volume tourism, anchored in safety, efficiency, and service excellence, has yielded tangible dividends.

As Africa’s aviation and hospitality sectors expand, Rwanda’s success illustrates how vision, governance, and innovation can turn a small, landlocked nation into a continental leader in tourism infrastructure and investment confidence.
