At least two solar plants, with capacity to produce 500 megawatts are expected to be installed in Angola to improve electricity transport, an initiative financed by the United States of America, according to the coordinator of the American Power Africa project, Richard Nelson.
Speaking to the press, as part of the 4th Dialogue between the United States of America and Angola on Energy Security held on June 13 and 14 in Luanda, the US official said the first phase of the project is valued at 900 million US dollars, a value already approved for the respective plants.

Richard Nelson added that the second phase, which is related to mini networks, will be announced and implemented soon, underlining that Angola has a special characteristic, as it is a country with surplus electrical energy generation capacity, a fact that constitutes a unique opportunity to sell this product in the Southern Region.
Geoffrey Pyatt, the US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources, on his turn said the two countries are aligned for more cooperation in the energy transition sector, especially in the most critical areas and that the US works with 14 countries and the European Union to facilitate investment in this sector, which could be an added value for Angola.
Angola’s Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, on the other hand, said the projects will help reduce energy shortage and bring the benefits to all national citizens, as well as ensuring that the Angolan economy can benefit from resources that the country has, such as oil, gas and mineral resources.
Regarding the 4th Dialogue on Energy Security, which included a round table with the private sector, the Angolan official said it served for companies to be aligned with objectives of the Angolan State in terms of exploration and resources development, while hydrocarbons remain the Angolan and global energy matrix.

The forum on Energy Security ended Friday, with a visit to the Sonils base, where they received clarifications on the functioning of this infrastructure.
