The U.S. and Angola have signed an Open Skies Air Transport Agreement aimed at modernising their civil aviation partnership.
Signed by U.S. Ambassador Tulinabo S. Mushingi and Angola’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Domingos Custodio Vieira Lopes, the agreement enhances economic ties, encourages tourism, and boosts commerce by allowing unrestricted access for passenger and cargo carriers between the two countries.
This agreement, initiated in April 2023 and set to come into full effect once diplomatic exchanges are complete, aligns Angola with over 135 partners participating in U.S. Open Skies policies. It includes provisions such as open routes, unlimited frequency of services, and self-handling rights. It also promotes code-sharing opportunities, which provide flexibility and improved services for airlines and passengers. This development highlights Angola’s commitment to advancing aviation safety, security standards, and its integration into the global aviation network.
